Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not the media!

So my best friend, Suz, told me to go to this website, now I'm telling you. Dove is launching a "Campaign for Real Beauty." It's about damn time some corporation got something positive going!
Check it out, let me know what you think. I'll certainly be writing more once I've had a change to read more.

I think this is fantastic, and long over due. We (Erin, Wendy, and I) were having a conversation about this sort of thing as it pertains to men...okay, specifically ME. So, I got all "seventh grade" and was showing what pass for my muscles AT THEIR REQUESTS and said, at the time, when people see me at work, they see a balding fat man...not "this" or "this." Most people who know me, know that I find a wide variety of women beautiful, even if that "definition" is centered upon a mole, bend of elbow, or wrinkle in the wrist: it is enough. The idea that there is a "standard" is an old idea, but this standard, as defined by advertising, football fans, and other barbarians is a creation that programs us to believe that their corporate definitions of beauty are the only viable beauty. I think this Dove campaign is wonderful. Thank you, Erin, for bringing it to my attention.
Thank you! It looks like we are starting to get it! The cynic in me is crying out, "Ah...they've discovered a new demographic." I am, however, inclined to listen to the idealist in me saying, "Right on!"
