My online bulletin board. A place to post things I find groovy, or to ask questions of the masses. Kinda like a flea market, you never really know what you'll find but on a good day you should find something interesting, if not also of value.

I "Wonder" what healthy means

What constitues "more nutrisiously?" Does it really mean a more healthy diet? The Chinese have been known to have one of the healthiest diets on the planet. Keeping that in mind, does that just mean larger portions? Or perhaps foods that have been "vitamin fortified?"

While I got this article from Reuters, 'Oddly Enough,' this does sound off a number of alarms and questions in my mind. Oh, and I'm sure that porn producers are just grinning from ear to ear about this.

Facing Flatulence Free Future

I'm just as much in favor of a flatulence free world as the next person, but this is ridiculous!

A seriously groovy site

I have been using this site for some time now, and while I should have shared it with you long ago, it simply didn't cross my mind. I hope you all find it as interesting as I do.

So now, here you go. This is a wonderful resource for general information, as well as articles by pagans all over the world. I often refer here for spells, rituals, a refresher course or two.

Here's an idea

I recieved this from a dear friend of mine. I don't know if it can work or not, but it certainly is something to consider. If any of you plan on participating in this, please let me know. I would love to embark upon a discussion on this topic. Also, please follow the link, and sign a petition to lower gas prices. Perhaps if we all work together, one way or another, we can keep this from getting any worse. Who knows, we might even make it better.

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK

Wrong!

I understand that the money is not the important issue. It still strikes me as wrong to have this man get away with all of this and then to further get out of paying the victims. Justice seems to be inadequite in this matter.

Food for Thought

I have noticed, over the last several years, that purchasing fresh food at the grocery store has become a difficulty. If you shop the perimeter of most stores you're mostly okay, except for genetically modified produce and hormone pumped meats, but we'll save that for another entry, on another day. Today, I would like to discuss the evil that is packaged-packaged food. That is, food such as canned soups, dehydrated potatoes, and pre-measured baking mixes that are then packaged again, together, to produce a Meal-In-A-Box.

Not only are people not cooking from scratch anymore, but the idea of a "home cooked meal" has gone from one made of fresh ingredients to packaged and processed foods. My current favorite example of this meal-in-a-box fad is the one marketed by Betty Crocker. Here is what their website has to say about this particular product:

"Betty Crocker Complete Meals® dinners come with everything you need to make a meal--even the meat!
You'll find pasta, Betty Crocker® potatoes, Bisquick® biscuit, topping or dumpling mix and specially seasoned sauce mixes, plus cans of Progresso® meats and veggies in sauce. You need only water and 5 minutes' prep time, then pop it in the oven for great homemade taste.
And most Betty Crocker Complete Meals can also be prepared in a skillet or the microwave!"

I find this all very disturbing. I know that people have been using soups as meal-aides for decades, however, never before have we been so creatively destitute to put canned food in a box and call it home cooking. I mean, what the fuck?

In this age of super sized bookstores, that stock more cookbooks than dictionary's, and the myriad people who "just can't stop watching" the Food Network, why are grocery stores focusing on this shit?

I believe this "food" movement to be tied up in some deviant money grubbing plot to keep the middle, lower-middle and lower classes from actually being able to eat in a responsible manner. Furthermore I find it abhorrent that there are people who consider this cooking, making it virtually impossible to relate to past generations and times where self reliance and accomplishment through hard work were actually something to be proud of.

I heard a story today, of a young woman, around my age, who had just baked her first cake. When asked if she had made it from scratch, she asked "what's 'scratch'?" She then said that it was a box mix. While I would like to reward this young woman for doing that much, it is a sad and sorry state of affairs when convenience and ignorance are the driving forces behind what fuels a nation. Literally.

A meal gone awry

I just had some yogurt, normally a marvelously happy breakfast. Aside from it being really healthy, it also brings back lots of memories for me. Memories of my Mom and I on Wayne's campus; me riding along while she and my dad work out transportation, childcare, work/school. It was great, and every time I eat yogurt I think of that....

Except today. Memories tapping at my psyche, I took the first bite. Yummmmm...and then it hits me. This nasty, chemical-y, uber-plastic sweet aftertaste. It consumed and, in turn, ruined my entire yogurt ritual. Incredibly frustrating.

So my question to all you smart people is: What is that shit and why does it taste so fucking bad? The same question applies for aspertame.

A return to childhood

My friend Lacea, who has Netflicks, was kind enough to lend me one of her rentals. Punky Brewster. I loved Punky when I was a kid. I used to watch every episode, she was my hero. I wanted to be Punky.

I love that she was her own person. She never, in four seasons, worried about what other people

I remember when I was in the second, and then third, grade my parents bought me Punky Brewster hightop tennis shoes. The first pair ended up dead on my feet. I wore those suckers until the fell off of me. So my parents did what any parents would do when their child found a positive role model, they bought me another pair.

Ahh...what a lovely trip down amnesia lane

Hope Lives On!

The fight continues, in big ways:

This remarkable woman keeps doing what she believes is right, and just. Hats off to Dr. Miriam McCreary.

...and in small: My dear friend, Courtney, sent me one of the shirts with the South Dakota logo I discussed last month. These are available at cafepress, and were designed by my friend Patrick.

Let's continue to work in every way we can to assure freedom over our own bodies, for men and for women. Let's continue to push for true freedom, a country where we can be free to CHOOSE.

Spring Fever

What is it about responsibility that makes me want to goof off? Especially now that the weather is getting nice.

I have more than enough to keep me busy, but I fill my time by being idle. Playing online and being with friends, instead of actually accomplishing anything. On the one hand it makes me furious with myself, but then I rationalize it by saying, well we only live once and this is what I want to do right now.

Grrrrr....okay, I am off. To practice and prep for rehearsal. How do you all stay motivated?
